Recycled materials

Recycled materials are either left over material from production or used textiles that have been given a new life.

  • All our swimwear is made from recycled waste, such as PET bottles and production waste.
  • In 2017, we started to test using leftover fabrics from textile industry, in collaboration with Reverse Resources.
  • In 2018, we made a capsule collection 'There is no Planet B' using recycled waste.
  • In 2019, we launched a Limited Edition Collection in collaboration with Recover©, made from 100% recycled fabrics.
  • Our goal is to use only recycled or organic cotton by 2020.

We are increasing the share of recycled fabrics year by year. This is what we’ve done so far:

Recycled swimwear

In 2017 we launched our first swimwear collection made from recycled waste. Today all our swimwear is made from recycled polyamide and/or recycled polyester, saving on raw materials and energy. The source for recycled polyester is mostly PET bottles, while recycled polyamide is made from recycled waste, everything from old fishing nets and carpets, to waste from manufacturing industries. Recycling prevents this waste from going to landfills. Also, in most cases the process of transforming waste into recycled materials uses much less energy than the process of creating new virgin materials.

Reverse Resources Collaboration

In 2017 we collaborated with Reverse Resources, a company specializing in reusing production leftovers. By creating a textile industry network, Reverse Resources work on reducing resource spill. Awarded with the Global Change Award, Reverse Resources is aiming for a new model of remanufacturing by integrating leftovers back into production.

There is No Planet B Capsule

In 2018 we created a capsule collection made from organic cotton, recycled polyester and recycled polyamide. We used slogans such as ‘There is no planet B’ and ‘Made of waste’ to encourage our customers to make more sustainable choices and raise awareness.

Limited Edition Collection with Recover©

In spring 2019 our Limited Edition Collection was created together with Recover© and made from 100% recycled fabrics. We used post-industrial cotton waste, that had been collected and colour separated, so no recoloring was needed. Then the cotton was shredded into fibers and blended with recycled polyester, made from recycled polyester from PET bottles. The low impact textiles save on energy, CO2, chemicals and water. And, help save PET bottles from ending up in landfills or oceans.

The collection was inspired by the idea of owning your choices; the future is something to be achieved and not something to be taken for granted. At Weekday we believe that individuals hold the power to change their lives and make choices that make less of an impact on the environment. With this in mind the collection was made with a sustainable mindset and consists of 100% recycled fabrics.
