Poverty doesn’t just refer to the lack of
money, knowledge skills or health care, but also includes the
inability to influence your own situation in life. Poverty is closely
associated with oppression, discrimination and stigma. To reduce
poverty it is important to encourage the kind of social development
where gender equality and the enjoyment of basic rights are in focus.
An investment in sexual and reproductive rights and health, including
the right to contraception, results in both economic and social development.
