World Refugee Day 2018

For World Refugee Day, June 20th, we collaborated with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to create a collection of products that encourages action, in support of the millions of refugees and forcibly displaced persons worldwide. The objective of the international day of observance, as well as the collaboration, is to honor the strength, perseverance and courage of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, conflict and persecution.

The collection includes 5 original designs, printed on organic cotton t-shirts and totes, a belt, a key chain and a porcelain coffee cup.

100% of proceeds from all collaborative products will be donated directly to UNHCR*.

Want to know more… below is a short interview with some of the incredible people, who do the work, protecting the rights and building a better future for refugees.

Can you explain the objective of World Refugee Day?

The objective of World Refugee Day is to honor the strength, perseverance and courage of the world’s refugees. It also marks a day where the rest of the world is able to show support for people who have been forced to flee their homes. No one chooses to be a refugee, but we can choose to see them as individuals, listen to their stories and help.

Sara Elz - Face-to-Face fundraising Coordinator

How long has the UNHCR existed and what is the main goal of the organization?

UNHCR was created after 1950. The mission was to help the million refugees from the Second World War. Almost seventy years later, UNHCR is now working globally to safeguard the rights and well-being of over 68 million displaced people.

UNHCR’s work helps refugees, returnees, stateless people, internally displaced and asylum seekers to restart their lives by providing protection, shelter, health care and education as well as family reunification for families torn apart by war and conflict. Working with fundraising for UNHCR means making a difference for the individual human beings behind the statistics.

AK Fagerlund - Manager Direct Relations Unit

What kind of support can the average person give, to improve the lives of refugees?

We are all human, therefore we should all look at each other as equally human. No one chooses to flee, which is important to remember.

Every month, thousands of people support UNHCR’s work for refugees around the world. With their kind donations, UNHCR can help refugee children and families receive the life-saving relief and support they desperately need. For example, with just €10 we can provide mattresses to prevent a family from sleeping on the ground. This is a meaningful contribution that many of us can give.

Johan Petri - Corporate Fundraising Coordinator

What is the purpose of the hashtag #WithRefugees?

The hashtag #WithRefugees has the purpose of showing solidarity and support for refugees. In a world where the discussion about refugees focuses less on the individuals forced to flee their homes, and more on figures and politics, it is of utmost importance that all parts of society, and the public, position themselves with refugees.

The #WithRefugees campaign is an opportunity for the public to demonstrate their support to refugees and encourage government into action to ensure every refugee child receives an education, ensure every refugee family has somewhere safe to live, and ensure every refugee can work or learn new skills to support their families.
